When I was 7 days late, Taylor didn't seem to be moving that much. When she did move, she moved really slowly which just wasn't like her. I called the Doctor, and they said to come in to do a non-stress test. They were checking her heart rate and after about 30 minutes it looked like her heart rate was randomly descending. They decided to admit me on Friday, Oct. 2nd because of her heart rate. After about 1 hour of pitocin, Taylor's heart rate was back to normal and they knew she was just fine. Since we had already started, we decided to just continue. After 12 hours of pitocin, I dilated from a 1 to a 1.5. The Doctor said we didn't have much of a choice other than to break my water, but since I'd already been there for 12 hours, she was worried that I'd be exhausted by the time I was complete. So, we went home on Saturday morning and then returned to the hospital on Sunday morning.
When we arrived on Sunday they said I was still only a 1.5. They broke my water and started pitocin at around 9:30am. After three hours of some pretty bad contractions, I dilated from a 1.5 to a 2. I decided to get an epidural since my body wasn't exactly cooperating. That was easily the most dramatic time of the day. I had three contractions while the needle was in my back, Jeremy almost passed out because the doctor said "you're going to feel a pop" and then I threw up. Once the epidural kicked in, life got much easier. We popped in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and just waited. Six hours after I got the epidural, Taylor was ready to be here.
Taylor was such a hungry, cuddle bug the moment she arrived. Unfortunately, Taylor went to the bathroom as she came out, so they had to immediately take her away to clean her up before I could see her. It was the longest few minutes of my life. I could see her across the room, but I just wanted to hold her! My mom was also in the room, so she was taking photos of Taylor and bringing them over to me to see.
Finally, I got to hold my baby. It was definitely the best moment of my life. Jeremy and I just cuddled our little girl for two hours, and then they moved us over to a new room. The two days in the hospital flew by! They were sort of stressful because they were constantly checking Taylor's blood sugar since she was "overweight". Luckily, she passed all of the tests like a champ. I feel like we worried anytime she sneezed or coughed because we just weren't sure what "normal" was. I was so grateful for the nurses and all of their help.
When she crossed her fingers like this, I just had to take a picture. It was the cutest thing!
They gave her a bath at the hospital and she did so good. She loved having the water poured on her hair. She screamed a little, but was overall pretty calm. The nurse said that she would go right to sleep afterwards, but Taylor was wide awake. She was ready to eat again and stayed up for quite a while.
We left the hospital on Tuesday evening and Taylor's cheeks bounced all the way home! We put a cute dress and cardigan on her that we bought in Tennessee from a store called Janie and Jack. It was a little big, but it worked. She seemed to love the car seat.
